Save Our Catchment Virtual Excursion

An interactive educational learning video series for the New South Wales Education Department

  • Organisation: NSW Department of Education

  • Target Audience: School Children

  • Platforms: Department Website

Save Our Catchment is an interactive educational series that approaches the Stage 5 Australian Geography curriculum through video and electronic resources. This virtual excursion offers twelve video lessons that form a sample investigation of pest species invading Australian riparian zones.

Filmed on Bundjalung Country, the excursion traverses mid-north coast NSW Upper Clarence River Catchment, connecting each video to companion classroom and field learning tasks. There are curriculum links to stage 5 Science. Cross-curriculum priority Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Culture, and Sustainability, offer scope for flipped classroom practices.

The series provides an independent study of the Cats Claw Creeper in the Upper Clarence Catchment, which can be used as a model for students to follow in a local creek or stream.
