SCALING THE SUMMIT: TREATMENT FOR PTSD

2024

A Path Through Trauma

PTSD can feel like an impossible mountain to climb, but with the right support, recovery is possible. We collaborated with psychologist Priyadharshany Sandanapitchai to highlight her research into Cognitive Processing Therapy, a promising approach to PTSD treatment. Our animation follows characters on their journey through trauma, using light and movement to symbolize the hope that comes with evidence-based care.

Behind the Scenes

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be complex and chronic. It is a clinically diagnosed condition that occurs in individuals who experience or witness a traumatic event that involves the actual or possible threat of death, violence or injury. It’s a serious issue that affects thousands of lives. Binkyfilms is proud to put our skills to work for this cause, raise awareness of PTSD and share Priyadharshany Sandanapitchai’s research into its treatment.

Priyadharshany, the narrator of this film, is a provisional Psychologist and Clinical Psychology PhD candidate focused on trauma and PTSD interventions. Her current research is evaluating a new guided self-help Cognitive Processing Therapy program to treat PTSD in adults. This type of intervention could help more people access evidence-based trauma treatment. After listening to Priyadharshany we wanted to make sure we took a realistic view of the disorder and its treatment. Through the journeys of several animated characters we hoped to acknowledge the isolating depths of pain whilst making sure to illuminate the moments of hope provided by treatment.

From Idea to Impact

We designed the motif of a steep seemingly insurmountable mountain to represent PTSD and all of the struggles that come with it. There’s a dark, foreboding feeling to the animation which reflects the deep and isolating impacts of the condition. As the narration begins to outline solutions, a yellow glow enters the frame, bringing optimism and hope. Slowly we begin to see a path up the mountain.
