The Big Picture

A little known but highly effective scientific method to learn about whales is extracting DNA from their fecal matter. Binkyfilms wanted to create something unique and humorous to showcase this practice and some of the perils that come with it.

Marine Scientist Aashi Parikh shares her hilarious story of transporting her precious whale poo samples over 1,400km across the southern states of Australia while struggling to keep them at the perfect temperature. We developed a style that would be entertaining and educational for our school-aged audience. Get ready to laugh, learn and be amazed by the incredible secrets hidden in the depths of the ocean!

Our Secret Sauce

Animating waves, whales and test tubes of poo was all part of the fun as we adopted a stop-motion inspired style and plunged the viewer into the world of whale faeces transportation. We chose bright colours, highly stylised characters and a handcrafted look to help exaggerate the humour of Aashi’s debacle.
